Our nugget’s nursery is definitely my favorite room in our little apartment. I love its clean design with subtle hints of blue. Not to mention it has the best natural light with those oversized windows looking into the courtyard. It is such a bright happy space 🙂
Welcoming our baby boy in our temporary European home had a few challenges. Our “2 bedroom” apartment is exceptionally small, even by my New York City standards. The “second” bedroom could barely fit a twin bed & our apartment doesn’t have a single closet – hello storage crisis! When my husband rented this place over 3 years ago, we weren’t married and babies certainly weren’t on the radar just yet. Needless to say, we made it work and it only took a few (okay, ALOT) of rearranging to make the space work for our new family of three.
Our nursery inspiration was to keep everything clean & simple since we were working with a small space. The Babyletto Hudson Crib & Dresser/Changing Table were the perfect fit. We loved the clean lines and most importantly, they fit in our shipment from the US. While we could have purchased beautiful baby furniture in Belgium, Brett’s company offered us a “baby shipment”, so we were able to have a fun baby shower back in the States & stock up on baby essentials over the holiday sales.
For a pop of color, we decided we wanted a subtle color palette. Restoration Hardware Baby & Child ended up having our favorite options – French Blue for a boy or Petal Pink for a girl. Once we found out a baby boy would be joining us, it was an easy choice. We added a beautiful velvet toddler quilt, star printed crib sheets, and an accent pillow for our rocker. Conveniently, we even found a matching blue & grey changing pad cover. By the way, the these are my favorite changing pad covers. They come in beautiful prints, are made of extra thick fabric, and wash up extremely well. I highly recommend!
For some fun accent pieces we added watercolor prints from Etsy over Mark’s crib and a simple Ikea Shelf to display a few of our favorite books, stuffed animals, and decor pieces. I absolutely adore the new mom sketch my friend gifted me for my shower and the New York City themed music box from my sister – a lovely reminder of my previous home. We also added a fun blue tassel rope from a baby sprinkle in Belgium which Mark loves to stare at and play with while he is on the changing table.
A few other staple pieces in the nursery are the rocking chair and rug. We ordered our rocking chair from Olli Ella and I love that it is handmade in the UK and the fabric is stain resistant. It is so easy to clean after a little spit up and looks beautiful in the space. (PS – they ran 20% off everything around Christmas last year so be sure to look for sales over the holidays). We also added this rug which, is machine washable! You read that right — just pop it in the washer whenever it gets dirty. Anything that is easy to clean is a new mom must have. We will definitely be getting a few more of these rugs when we have a larger house!
I can’t wait until we head back to the US and are able to expand Mark’s nursery and create a little play room for our growing boy! What are your favorite nursery pieces?
